RSI is the Best Trading Indicator For Beginning and Advanced Forex Traders

Monday, March 7, 2011

Have you ever wondered what trading indicator you could always use regardless of your skill level? RSI, the Relative Strength Index, is such an indicator. It is an indicator that can be used as a standalone trading system without the need for any other method.

Helpful for the beginner

If you are new to trading Forex, simplicity is important. The RSI indicator can help you understand what is happening on your charts with a minimum of learning. Most Forex educational formats teach you about every tool in the toolbox when you don't need all of the tools in the toolbox to trade Forex.

The problem with Forex education

Suppose you went to college to get a degree in a particular kind of mathematics. While you were in school however you had to take classes in every aspect of mathematics so that when you were done you still didn't really know that much about the area of mathematics you were interested in. For the most part Forex educational systems teach you about everything in a "vanilla" sort of way so that when you are done you look around - after spending $5,000 - and are still wondering how to trade Forex.

The RSI has 4 signals to learn

Suppose you could learn 4 different signals on one chart. Suppose that when you looked at a trading chart regardless of currency pair or time frame, that with a few calculations you knew more about what was going on on that chart then most professionals. RSI allows the trader to get an immediate picture of what is happening on a trading chart in a matter of minutes.

Manually or automatically

RSI has been around since 1978 and is still used extensively to determine whether prices on a trading chart are overbought or oversold. This is NOT the correct use of RSI. It does not determine whether prices are overbought or oversold. However this is what most books and educational formats will tell Forex traders. The 4 signals of RSI are positive and negative divergence and positive and negative reversals. All 4 of these signals can be plotted manually using the drawing tools on a chart or they can be implemented automatically using an indicator called The RSI Paint Indicator.

Why these signals are so important

In the 9 1/2 years - 2000 to June 2010 - there were over 9200 of these signals on RSI hourly charts. You can imagine how many more there were on 15 minute charts. On hourly charts over that period, reversal signals averaged over 70 pips per trade. If 25% of those trades were one kind of reversal that would mean roughly a total of 17,000 pips per year or 71 pips averaged per trading day on hourly charts.

Nothing else is needed

RSI does not need trend lines to tell the trader when to trade. It doesn't need Fibonacci, or Gann or Elliott Wave. RSI is a standalone trading indicator that measures momentum in the market and uses the 4 signals above to tell the trader when to trade.

If you are just starting out in Forex or you have been trading unsuccessfully you should consider the small investment in learning RSI a step in the right direction. You can learn more about RSI by reading the eBook, RSI Fundamentals, Beginning to Advanced.

Getting To Know How Indicators Works For Traders

Friday, January 28, 2011

If you have been trading the Forex market then you must have known that in technical analysis, we are required to be able to read the chart properly. There are lots of traders out there that use technical analysis to determine the future price movement. They calculate and analyze the chart based on the previous price data. Technical analysts often believe that price will repeat what it's done in the past. That is why previous data on the chart is really important for technical analysts to examine so they can make the best judgment on the next possible price movement.

To help them determine price's next movement, analysts usually adding some indicators to their chart in order to help them reads the chart more clearly and to have guided help from them on what might be happening in the future.

There are many indicators that trader can use to help them in their technical analysis. Each one of those indicators are unique, have their own ability to predict price movement and very helpful if the traders knows how to use them properly. Some indicators are usually attached to the chart below the price while other are usually attach directly to the price itself. Many traders uses more than three or even five indicators, while some of them uses only one indicator or none at all. It is just individual preferences really.

Technical traders such as the scalp traders usually combine two or more indicators to help them predict price movement easily. Scalp traders always like to use indicators that are fast such as the Parabolic SAR, Moving Averages and Bollinger Bands. The combination between those three can bring good result for short term traders such as the scalp traders. Scalp traders are commonly using the small time frame such as 5 minutes and 1 minute chart. That is why they need fast indicators to help them make the best judgment from it.

Swing traders and day traders are known for their use of lagging indicators. Lagging indicators are the indicators that always move by following the price action. This mean indicators are forming after the price has close. Such indicators are like Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD), the Slow Stochastic and Relative Strength Index (RSI)

Lagging indicators are usually telling the traders about the possible price reversal that might be happening in near future. Overbought and oversold condition can also be recognized through them. For example, there are points on the Slow Stochastic that telling people whenever the indicator reach to some points, the overbought - oversold condition may apply. And when those conditions are applied, traders might want to be very careful if they are still having open position because price will probably out of gas to continue its move to the upside or to push even lower to the downside.

Best Forex Indicators - 2 Popular Indicators and Fatal Mistakes Most Traders Make

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Many traders like to use pivot points and moving averages but make fatal mistakes and don't use them correctly, which ensures the indicators which can help their profitability actually causes them losses.

If you are using these indicators or thinking of using them, then learn now to use them correctly.

Here are some tips that will help you use these indicators correctly.

1. Don't use them on meaningless data

More traders than ever are day trading and their losing.

The reason why is simple the time frame is to short and all volatility in daily periods is random and therefore NO technical indicator will give you any advantage, pivot points, moving averages, or any other indicator can help you make profits.

Ever seen a day trading vendor who has real time track record of profits?

You won't!

Because it doesn't work, volatility can and does, go anywhere in a day and traders lose - it's as simple as that.

2. You can't time entries with them!

Moving averages define the longer term trend; pivot points indicate points of rotation by definition, so they are telling you where prices may find support or resistance - nothing more.

Many traders like to simply wait for prices to reach the levels and enter their trades and then hope prices turn in the direction they anticipating, but if you rely on "hope" you will lose.

Never trade on "hope" trade with the odds in your favour.

This means when prices move towards the price levels you are looking at, you need to get the odds in your favour and that means combining them with momentum indicators to time your trading signals with the risk to reward I your favour.

You need evidence that price momentum is indicating the levels will hold.

If for example, prices move to support and price momentum turns up, you have the odds in your favour that support will hold and you can execute your trading signals.

Good momentum indicators are ones such as, the stochastic and Relative Strength Index (RSI) and if used with pivot points or moving averages, you have a powerful combination.

It's all about combining indicators for profit - no indicator works on its own, so you need indicators that complement each other.

THE Biggest Mistake any Trader Can Make.

Is to try and "predict" market direction. Most day traders do this as standard and most people who use pivot points and moving averages, who try and execute trading signals with them are doing the same.

You can't predict turning points so don't try - act on confirmation and you will increase your odds of success dramatically.

Keep in mind trading is an odds game not a game of guessing, hoping or predicting - if you remember that and use it to your advantage you can avoid a fatal mistake most forex traders make.
